One of our favorite places to sit is next to the window. You will see our big Japanese Bilingual Bible on the table waiting for us to open it. And just like the sunshine pouring through the window mid-morning, we will be pouring over God's Word.
In English...and in Japanese. One of Tim's goals this year is to read through the Japanese New Testament, that means a chapter a day. My goals is to just read a few verses in Japanese a day. Even though this takes me probably just as long as I go back and forth, figuring out the grammar patterns and deciphering the uncommon words.
I love books covered in leather and this is what we've done with this thick, heavy Bilingual Bible. We got this idea from my dad who has recovered many Bibles over the years. For this one we just took off the hard cover and glued on a soft, smooth thin leather piece. It lasts for years and looks and feels wonderful.
When the sunshine isn't warming us on these cold winter mornings, we are covered in throws. I am a huge fan of wool. There is nothing that will warm you in mid winter like wool. To keep the chill off I wear wool sweaters and wool socks, I have wool inserts in my dress boots and keep a wool blanket in our living room. We came across this one when sorting others things left behind. I think it is a classic.
Of course a cup of something steamy helps to ward off the cold creeping in. Tim's favorite is raspberry tea sweetened with lots of honey. And I like this mint-green tea with just a drop of honey. So, on a wintery February day, you will find us here. Enveloped in fleece and sipping something hot and soothing. Reading God's Word in English and in Japanese. For our hearts and for our minds. To personally know better the truths that keeps us going and to know better how to share with the Japanese around us these truths in the language we live and work in.
