welcome to our back porch

We are desperately trying to settle in. There is still book boxes that we need to sort through. And piles of stuff I'm just not sure what to do with. We have been "downsizing" non-stop, to fit well into this smaller apartment. We are still trying to figure out what should go where and hoping to not loose anything too important in the process.

While we fix up the inside, we have been working on the outside too. We are thankful for a small plot of ground on the edge of a mini porch. Even though our big living and dining room windows face a 9 story brick apartment building, we are thankful we get to see some sky and sunshine. And I have a cheery place to have my quiet time and drink tea.

And in true American style we planted grass. We don't have a sprinkler system or even an outside faucet or hose, but so far the rainy Tokyo days have sprouted it green at our feet.

Even though it is autumn (which feels more like mild summer weather so far) we have planted some seeds of favorites that we can't get here. Somehow waking up each morning to see them growing is a well needed diversion in these crazy, tiring days of moving and settling in.
