For several reasons, at this point we decided not to get a car. Since we are just on the edge of Tokyo, the roads around us are narrow and curvy with cement walls bordering them. And since we have cheap grocery stores nearby, it is easier and faster to hop on our bicyles to get a loaf of bread rather than take the car. Also, in our apartment building the parking spots are "layered" elevator style so it isn't so easy or fast to have access to your car. AND the monthly fee for a parking space would be about $150.
So bikes it is. Which provide us with lots of exercise, fresh air and sunshine (a little too much at times).
It's not just us on the bikes, but the items that we need to transport as well. Some of the crazy things we have hauled home recently are: 3 loads of laundry, a refrigerator and freezer full of food, 50 lbs of dirt, a 6ft laundry pole and a broom. Click on the short videos below to see us carrying home an area rug, a pizza and a plant.
