Takayama that is. Our favorite missionary vacation spot that we affectionately refer to as "Tak" (pronounced like "talk"). This is quite a unique place. Where else can you go in Japan that has a great surfing-boogie boarding beach, great views, great fellowship with other missionary and expat families and a great selection of American favorite foods.
There is about 55 cabins on 2 hills overlooking the ocean near Sendai city, mostly owned by mission organizations and missionaries. Just follow the woodsy path to OMF's 2 cabins, our favorite is #31 with a great view of the ocean and beach. Granted this cabin is 80-90 years old and there is sunlight peaking in through a few of the slats, but there have been some great improvements as well. Oh and a little green frog greeted us one morning in the bathroom, but fewer bugs inside this year than usual.
We worked several days clearing the overgrown brush and cutting grass, as well as de-cluttering some of the old, musty things collected over the years. Tim and the boys also re-screened several of the windows.
We are so thankful for such a great time for our family. Lots of games, TV shows on DVD, swimming, boogie boarding and reading. The boys even tried surfing with a friend's borrowed board.

We were excited to buy Lucky Charms, tortillas, syrup, salsa, chicken noodle soup and root beer at the little shop. These extra treats from home added to our vacation fun.
This is one of the 2 beaches at Tak. We stayed in the cabin with the red metal roof. What a beautiful spot!
