The other day when we were working on a house project Tim bought this 2x4 piece of wood. I asked him how much it was and he said that it was $2. I replied, "No way, that's cheap!"
It was...compared to Japan. We remember seeing a 2x4 priced for about 5x's that price. Wood, or anything made of real wood for that matter (most semi-affordable furniture is made of particle board) is terrible expensive since most of it is imported from overseas.
