I thought a Kindle would be the best thing for this girl who travels the world and moves across oceans. It would keep my box of books to a minimum and be less to store in our small apartment. A Kindle would mean I was always armed with a book on long plane flights and layovers and never have to lug an extra book in my suitcase that I never even had time to open.

Well, I have tried. But there is something about the feel of dog-eared pages between my fingers and the hunt for a bookmark. There is something homey and relaxing about the stack of books piled on the table that I look forward to read...someday.  And best of all, I can give these life-changing books to my kids, hoping they too will be impacted by the lives they read about and transported to another world hidden those pages.

And best of all, who can pass up free books on the missionary give-away table at our monthly gathering. And that is just where I picked up this adventure of a couple navigating ministry life in the depths of wartime China; Under His Wings By A.C. Lawless. As most missionary biographies do, this narrative challenged me with the lives of Walter and Helen Jespersen and their faithfulness and obedience even with young children in the midst of sickness, fear and danger.

So if you have a few minutes, cozy up to your Kindle or paperback and get lost in a good missionary biography. You will probably be blessed by the tenacious faith of some very ordinary servants who lived extrordinary lives building God's Kingdom in far off places.
