This sign is around the corner from our house. It says something like: "Greeting someone will brighten your day". We have seen several signs along the streets in our neighborhood; encouraging people to say "hello" to each other, encouraging them to relate.

In Tokyo, we have found that most people don't make eye contact, smile or acknowledge each other. I can see how Japanese can live in the biggest city in the world, surrounded by faces, but still feel alone. To be welcomed and known is a understandable felt-need among anyone. We pray daily that God will help us connect to those around us, often starting through a smile, a nod and a "good morning" greeting.
