I splurged on some flowers yesterday. These overpriced Baby's Breath not only brightened up my table but brightened up my day as it became a conversation starter. The shop-keepers were surprisingly friendly and they asked me if I knew the name of these flowers in Japanese. After they told me, I relayed the name back to them several times hoping this not-very-practical word would make an impression on my memory. I then told them what it was in English and they nodded with enthusiasm at it's literal meaning. I left with my bicylce basket full of beauty and a smile on my face. I was happy to connect in just this small way to those around me who desperately need the touch of Christ's love and peace. This beautiful love and peace that I forget that I carry around with me as I ride my bike around Japan and stop once in a awhile and shop for flowers.
