Sometimes I feel like we are a traveling drug store. And we have to be. Recently we had a rather urgent medical situation on a Saturday evening. Since all the clinics in our neighborhood were closed we went to the bathroom-sized police station near the train station about a 10 minute walk from our house. They told us the names of possible hospitals a good distance away by car. They also said we would have to call ahead and make sure they could take us.
Thankfully with some medicine we had from the States the condition subsided. The next day I asked my Japanese friend what she would have done. She said, "Possibly call an ambulance". And I realized that if the situation on that late weekend evening had gotten worse, rather than better, we might have done just that. It was a good reminder to me to keep my medicine cabinet well stocked. And of course, that God is our Great Physician, who lovingly hears our prayers and graciously heals.
