Driving to the Hospital

This week has found us in the hospital
due to a basketball injury and an ankle of broken bones.

Life's unexpected seconds can alter an afternoon or a summer or even the next 6 months.

So thankful that the Creator and Healer of those bones is All-knowing and All-powerful.
And holds us securely in His Sovereign Hands.

After our son's injury, we sat in the ambulance outside the sport's center for 40 minutes as the paramedic called a list of hospitals, trying to find one that would take us. We know God's hand was in this and He lead us to a good hospital with an orthopaedic surgeon on call! As I rode in the ambulance with our son, Tim tried to follow to the hospital  that we'd never heard of. Since Tim couldn't go through the red lights and we didn't have our GPS, he amazingly found it after stoping at multiple 7-11's to ask for directions. My wonderful husband showed up just in time to see x-rays and hear the doctor's prognosis. I was so thankful he was home that Thursday afternoon.

Driving to the hospital to visit our son takes 30-35 minutes from our house.  Not that it is that far, but the windy, narrow, crowded Tokyo roads that lead us there make for a tiring haul.  Are you ready for this?  It is only 6 miles away. Which means we go an average of 12 miles per hour.  Life in Tokyo! You gotta love it.

Once you arrive at the hospital you pull into the miniature-sized parking garage.  It takes several times backing up and pulling forward to get into the tight spots between cars.  Which, of course, has to be done under the watchful eye of the grandpa-aged parking attendant who will scold you if you don't back your car into the parking spot.  If we park only 3 hours at a time then the parking fee is  only $1 an hour, but if we stay any longer the price shoots up...so what does this frugal missionary family do?  Well, pull out of the parking lot after 3 hours, drive around the block and then pull right back in!  All to save a few bucks? Well, more than a few as we spend 4-6 hours there each day, every day!
