I just wanted to send out a "Happy 4th" to my fellow Americans. I've stuck my flags in my pots and found a couple packages of decorative paper napkins. As in our past celebrations we've decked out the house to remind us where we come from. No vacation yet, but we look forward to some potato salad and chips with salsa when we'll get together with another American family.
I couldn't resist these blooms that make a brilliant centrepiece purchased just around the corner from our house at a little nursery. Big plastic covered tents and rows and rows of flowers tended by hunched over grannies in bonnet-like floppy hats. I dropped my 2oo yen worth of coins ($2) in the little wooden box and walked away with a smile and an arm full of cheer on this holiday-in-a-far-off-place...and in-our-home-too weekend.
