love letters...reminding me of HIS love

Not too long ago I came across a packet of letters and postcards.  Bitter-sweet memories of years and years ago.  The tears and heartache only seeming like yesterday.

Part of the reason I started this blog 5 years ago was to share the nitty-gritty of missionary family life.  The ups and downs.  Trials and blessings. This unique life that God has called us to. The unique life that He has called our family to. The unique life that He has called our children to.

There were times that we had to claim God's goodness and grace in faith, because we couldn't see it with our eyes; couldn't feel it in our hearts.  God had good plans in store for these MKs (missionary kids) of ours.  He wouldn't just carry and empower us to live this strange missionary life, He would carry and empower our precious little ones as well.

Thumbing through these letters.  Smiling at stickers, stamps and scripture. Almost daily letters sent for 3 long years. Reading my penned pep-talks to our middle school son boarding on another island, not only breaks my heart anew, but breaks the mold of the "model" parenting.  Only God could carry.  Only God could enable.
Only God could give grace to not only allow us to survive, but to thrive.  Hard lessons learned of submission, peace, contentment.  Hard lessons of following the broken road that He leads us on...pleasing our Savior's commands rather than man's condemnation.  Looking back, we claimed in faith what we could not see, could not feel. Now we bask in seeing and feeling the warmth of His goodness displayed.
