Remembering

Much like 9-11 to Americans, 3-11 holds meaning to Japanese.  For those of us who were in Japan 2 years ago on March 11, we stop today to remember the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that took over 27,000 lives.

Today, we stop to remember.  To remember the loss.  But also to remember the life and hope that God is bringing from the heaps of rubble and brokenness.  This area of Japan that had the least amount of Christians, missionaries and churches, has been flooded with thousands of volunteers, missionaries and Japanese Christians who have lived out and loved out Christ in practical heart-felt ways.  And it's the Christian volunteers that have stayed the long haul; who have been a faithful witness over these past 2 years, not just to help with the instant relief, but with the recovery and rebuilding that takes a life-time.  Recovering Hope and rebuilding new Life.

If you have 5 minutes, please watch this moving story of a Japanese man who came to Christ through the testimony and prayers of volunteers who came to love on Japan.

Also, if you need to buy a gift for someone, why not spend your money to love on and support woman living in the tsunami affected region of Japan?  These beautiful, but broken woman are making beautiful jewelry from broken pieces of dishes and pottery found after the tsunami and earthquake.  Visit Nozomi Project to find our more about this wonderful ministry where 100% of the money goes to support these woman who all were deeply affected by the tragedy of 3-11.

The Japanese woman who made my beautiful necklace lost a young child in the tsunami. Each time I wear it and finger it's softened uneven edges, I pray for her brokenness.  I pray that Christ would reach down and bring Hope and Life; as only He can bring beauty out of brokenness.
