Asakusa Temple

The other day I was asked to play tour guide to a group of short term missionaries. It was a good chance to sight-see around Tokyo. We went to Asakusa and saw the huge Buddhist Temple. It was hot and rainy, so not the best day to see the sights, but the dreary weather matched my mood. Even though it was beautiful, it was sad to see Japanese honoring someone-something that deserves no honor and seeking help from someone-something that can't offer any help. Unfortunately the other foreneigners taking in the sights joined right in with burning insence, waving smoke, clapping their hands, bowing and even buying prayers of blessings, good luck, and protection.
"Why do the nations say, "Where is their God""
Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases him.
But their idols are silver and gold, made by hands of men.
They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes but they cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell; they have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
Those who walk with them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them."
Psalms 115: 2-8
