These simple shoeboxes filled with candy, toothbrushes, crayons, toys, soap, notebooks and flashlights are distributed by Samaritan's Purse each year. Our friends were able to go to Mexico last year and help pass these boxes out to kids who live in poverty. How great to see the smiles and excitement of these kids who have so little.What is so great about Samaritan's Purse is that they work alongside the local church. Also, each child is given a gospel tract and invited to do a simple correspondence Bible class. This great organization is concerned about the spiritual poverty in these children's lives, not just the physical poverty; they give the real message of everlasting hope, not just a handout.
We usually choose to pack a box for an older boy (since we heard most people pack boxes for younger girls). We even squeezed in a deflated soccer ball and a pump. We pray often for our "shoebox boy" (as we call him) that God would bring him, and his family, the gift of salvation along with his shoebox gift this Christmas.
