segments of our life

The other day I ran across this old picture prayer card. Wow, I was surprised to see how young the boys looked. Of course, it was taken over 5 years ago on our last home assignment.

It's funny how we, as missionaries, catagorize our life in terms of "terms" or "home assignmnents". We, as many career missionaries, do a 4 year "term" of service in Japan and then come back to the US for a 1 year "home assignment". This is repeated over and over. You will often catch us saying something happend "1st term" or "2nd term", or perhaps during our "2nd home assignment".

Not only is our life seperated into terms and home assignments, but also in periods of time at ecah house we lived in. We have lived in 11 houses in our 17 years of marriage (1-3 years each). You might hear us say, "Oh, remember when we lived in (such and such) house and did (such and such)."

It is a bit odd, I have to admit. But that is our missionary life, such as it is, neatly seperated into segments of "terms", "home assignments" and "houses" for easy reference.
