Even though we are sweltering in heat and humidity, my mind has been on Christmas. Well, specifically, Christmas presents. Not ones I will get, but ones I want to send.
Since the pandemic, posting mail to the U.S. has been a hassle and often non-existent. Right before the state of emergency, I mailed some cards and packages AIR mail, but they took over 3 months to arrive. They did arrive though and I was very relieved and thankful.
Now we are back to being able to send letters by AIR mail again and they seem to be arriving with a few weeks. Hurray! But we aren't able to send packages AIR mail and I have been told that the packages sent SURFACE or Sea mail (literally "ship mail" in Japanese) could take up to 6 months!!! All the sudden I realized if I was going to send anything for Christmas, it had to be done....like, yesterday!!!
We have been bustling about, wrapping small little gifts we have bought and made to send slow-boat to our kids and other family in the U.S. We will see if my holiday parcels actually take 6 months to arrive, but I am praying they will make it in time to be put under the tree and enjoyed on Christmas morning. Since we can't be together with most of our family, we are glad to send some wrapped up love across the sea.
